Professor Cedric Milner.
The
Club is sad to report the passing of Vice-Chairman Professor Cedric Milner
on 3rd of December, at the age of 75. Professor Milner joined
the Club on his retirement in 1996. He became a member of the Site
sub-Committee and a member of Council in 2001 and was co-opted to the
Executive Committee in 2004. He was appointed Chairman of the Sites
sub-Committee and in October 2007 became Club Vice-Chairman.
He was an ecologist and retired Professor of the
School of Biological Sciences at the University of Wales Bangor. he was
also a Director of Glas Cymru / Welsh Water, a former Chairman of the
Snowdonia Society and Council Member of the Campaign for the protection of
Rural Wales. He was formerly a Home Office Scientific Advisor and had also
worked for the national Environment Research Council. Professor Milner had
a particular interest in maintaining and enhancing the biodiversity of the
Club sites which he regarded as an under appreciated, potentially
important, national resource. He could be relied upon to identify local
species of fauna, flora, trees, shrubs and even grasses to ensure species
native to the local area were included in Club site redevelopment plans.
Professor
Milner worked and camped in many parts of the world. He was a fluent Welsh
speaker, as is his wife Annis who he met while mountaineering in
Snowdonia. He was also very a keen caravanner, touring regularly in
Britain and France where he owned a second caravan.

thoughts are with Professor Milner’s family
