The purpose of this page is
to show how the Welsh Divisional Council works.
Caravan Club Members (and
potential members) living in the Welsh Divisional area, can raise any
caravanning topic concerning the Club which affects them, to be settled at
a local level.
The Welsh Divisional Council
represents ALL Caravan Club members resident within
Wales, which encompasses the following Centres of The Caravan Club, Dyfed, Gwent,
South Glamorgan, South Wales, North Wales and West Wales.
The Objects
The objects of the Division shall be:
a) To represent general matters of Club or Centre interest to the Club
Council
b) To provide a means whereby The Caravan Club interests of those members
living in the area may be fostered.
c) To provide a forum to discuss and solve local problems at regional
level.
Clearly the Welsh
Divisional Council has a very broad brief which covers a wide range of topics. The
Divisional l Council is made up of extremely knowledgeable members. Usually
matters or questions raised can be resolved at a regional level. It is
sometimes necessary to seek advice from the Executive Committee or the
staff at East Grinstead. This means that every member of the Club can use
a Regional Council to access all levels of the Club management structure.
The Management of the Division
The affairs and activities are
controlled by a Divisional council which comprises of the following:
Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Hon. Secretary,
Hon. Treasurer. These are annually elected positions, to be elected
at the Annual General Meeting of the Division, and form the elected
officers.
There are two delegates from each Centre
within the Division , these are appointed by Centre Committees.
Finally, there may be up to three co-opted
Members, these being Current Members who are not registered with any
Centre, and who are deemed suitable by the Club Executive Committee.
Chairman and Vice-Chairman may
serve a maximum of three consecutive years.
A Chairman may stand for election again after being out of office for one
year. However, a Vice-Chairman may stand for the office of Chairman
without any such gap in office.
No Club member currently holding elected
office or committee membership within a Centre is eligible to be a
candidate for elected Divisional office.
Any member of the Caravan Club living
within the boundaries of the Division , or registered with a Centre in that
Division / Region is eligible to become an elected member of the
Divisional committee.
The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of The
Caravan Club shall be ex-officio members of the Divisional Council.
Members of the Executive Committee and Nominated Members of Club Council
living in the area, as well as The Director General or his representative,
may attend meetings, having the right to speak but not to vote.
If a vacancy should occur in the elected
members of the Divisional Council during the year, the Divisional Council may
co-opt a member to fill that
vacancy.
A Brief History
At a meeting of the Club
Council (January 1995) a proposal to restructure the Council was put
forward. It was decided that the Country would be divided into 10 Regions,
each with a Regional Council. These Regional Councils would elect
delegates to sit on a restructured Club Council.
What Have We Achieved
Since it began, the Council
has met regularly to discuss and where necessary, resolve matters of
interest to Divisional members. These meetings are held the week prior to
each Club Council meeting. This enables items to be raised by the 2 Divisional Delegates at the Club Council meeting. Other
Divisional Council
meetings are held as required.
Each year an AGM is held on
the Saturday prior to The Caravan Club AMM to elect the Officers, approve
the accounts and to receive reports on the Council’s activities. The AGM
is open to all members of the Club (as described previously). The call
notice usually appears in the July issue of the magazine. All members are
welcome and caravan parking is arranged near the meeting room.
Other events that have been
held include an Open Forum and Members Question Time. All Divisional Council
events are advertised in the Club Magazine.
How Can the Welsh
Divisional Council Help You as a Member
As a member of the Caravan
Club you are part of a very large and successful organisation. The Club
can help you to get more use and enjoyment out of your caravan. If you as
a member, have a point to make, a query, a suggestion, a comment or a
criticism, the first point of contact could well be the Welsh Divisional
Council. All you have to do is write to the Secretary whose address
appears in the members handbook.
There are, of course,
activities which do not involve the Welsh Division. For example ferry
bookings, insurance quotes, Red Pennant etc. These are all dealt with by
the Club Offices at East Grinstead.
Maybe you have a comment on
a Certified Location (C.L.), or a Club site, the Club collection, the
Magazine etc. If you have something to say please contact the Divisional
Council.
All members within the
Division can attend any event organised by the Divisional Council.
What is a Centre
There are six Centres
within the Welsh Region. Run by volunteers these provide a variety of
activities and social events. Joining a Centre is easy. Fill in the slip
on your membership card letter or (
